Bedfordshire ESP Qualifier 1 Report.

 

A rare still day for a Beds qualifier saw an excellent turnout for a good quality round with a something for every-one.  There were no real “gimmie” birds on any stands as it was easy to just get in front of the slower quartering targets especially as there were a number of targets on the shoot that I saw some fairly significant lead on.  All in all most seemed to think that it was a good round so well done Fletch and Dick.

 

In terms of results the shoot was won by Chris Broomfield on a 96 – this was streets ahead of every one else and shows what good form Chris is currently in.  The chasing pack contained some well known names in the 86 – 90 bracket including Ed Solomons, Jezz Towell and Julian Freeman and there was a good smattering of Bedfordshire shooters in the mix with John Stanton winning AA on 90 ahead of both Jason Brockett and Glenn Moore just one behind.  Andrew Clifton and Fred Kidd carded 86’s to start the qualifiers with strong starts. Andy Nixon also managed a single figure qualifying score with a good 82 just one of a class win in A. 

 

In Vets the early pace is being set by Lou Porter who carded a 77.  Trevor Sharp was the closest contender with an 8 point deficit. 

 

In ladies current county champion Gill Whinnett led the way, with Sally Wootton and Michala Hart both suffering after a particularly boisterous Hunt Ball.  A rare day for me spending a couple of hours in these twos’ company and being able to hear myself think!   Whilst on the subject of the ladies Linda Moore is currently recovering from a major operation and I am sure that you would all like to join me in sending our best wishes for a speedy recovery.

 

In juniors we had Ben Pay, Joe Heast and Jack Nixon in that order, Jack put in a 40 in his first competitive shoot and is dead keen to qualify for the county.  So well done Jack; listen to the old man and I am sure the scores will come.

We now have an official photographer for Beds events - you will have seen John Hartog around the ground yesterday hopefully some of his work will be on the site soon.  John is giving up his time for nothing and didn't even get a chance to shoot yesterday so if he points his long one at you - smile :-) 

 

On the subject of the teams for ESP I would like to make the selection policy very clear.

Qualification for ALL of the ESP teams is on the basis of position in the ranking tables from the 4 qualifying shoots of which the shooter MUST have shot at least 2.  The team will be picked by going down the list as far is as necessary to field a team from those available.  There will be NO EXCEPTIONS to this policy.
