Bedfordshire County ABT Championship

Doesn’t time fly? Another year as flown by with me as the Trap manager for Bedfordshire and I’m pleased to report on the County ABT Championship held at Northampton S.G. on Sunday 22rd May 2011.

The weather was sunny but overcast at times and extremely windy which severely affected the scoring levels! Most of us were at 10 or more targets below our average scores with some, myself included much worse than that!

At this year’s shoot the turnout for the county was not quite up to levels of last year with only five shooters taking part.  Because of the weather and the fact that most of the county contestants were occasional ABT shooters the standard was not that high.  Kevin Parsons took the trophy this year with a stunning 22 on the last round to put Phil Coxall, the leader until then, in second place by one target and Bob Moss in third, again only by one target.
 
The targets this year again were excellent on both layouts with very few “no birds” and the microphones were no trouble at all.  As I mentioned above, the standard of shooting for all contestants was not quite as good as for previous years, undoubtedly due to the very high wind, but the competitive spirit was certainly alive and well! Thank you to every one of you that turned out.  I’ll no doubt be in touch with you when I need to put together the team for the Inter-Counties Championships.

Each year I mention this, but nonetheless it’s true: It would be really great if we together a county team for the Inter-County Championships later this year.  So, if there are any of you out there who did not compete this year and would like to try out for the team please let me know.
