Once again, as the Trap manager for Bedfordshire it’s my pleasure to report on the County ABT Championship held at Northampton S.G. on Sunday 23rd May 2010.

The weather was hot, sunny and very bright and to some extent created a level of glare that fooled some of us, myself included, into using the wrong glasses during our first round.

At this year’s shoot the turnout for the county was a little better than last year with seven shooters taking part.  As is usually the case, because most of the county contestants were occasional ABT shooters the standard was not that high, myself included.  Although I was fortunate enough to win the title again this time after not being able to compete last year, my very poor first round put me down in last place. However, the next two fairly good rounds put me nearer the top and my very first 25 straight in the last round clinched it for me with Kevin Parsons 3 targets behind in second place followed closely by Phil Coxall in third.
 
The targets this year again were excellent on both layouts with very few “no birds” and the microphones were no trouble at all.  Despite the very good visibility, the standard of shooting for all contestants was not quite as good as for previous years, but the competitive spirit was certainly alive and well! Thank you to every one of you that turned out.  I’ll no doubt be in touch with you when I need to put together the team for the Inter-Counties Championships.

Each year I mention this, but nonetheless it’s true: It would be really great if we could build on this result and put together a county team for the Inter-County Championships later this year.  So, if there are any of you out there who did not compete this year and would like to try out for the team please let me know.
